Calgary, AB – July 23rd: Award-winning independent developer New World Interactive announced the hiring of industry veteran Derek Czerkaski to a recently added Head of Production role as the company expands its Canadian development studio, New World North in Calgary, Alberta.
Derek has been involved with the games industry for over a decade. He got his start serving as a freelance journalist within popular gaming websites such as “GameFAQS.com” and “MMORPG.com”. He transitioned into the development side of the game industry in 2014, where he began as a QA tester. Over the past 5 years, he climbed his way through the ranks of numerous disciplines; ranging from assisting with UX testing via Playtests at Epic Games, to refining a QA department and assisting with production at Sony-Bend, to engaging with the community and players at Ubisoft. For the last 18 months, he served as a strategic advisor for Tencent, working in their evaluations department, which is responsible for assessing strategic partnerships with game studios across the globe. His addition to the team brings a strong pedigree from his time at various AAA gaming companies across the Americas, where he worked on titles such as Paragon, Days Gone, and Ghost Recon Wildlands.

New World Interactive, headquartered in Denver, CO, is best known for their ‘Insurgency’ franchise of immersive, tactical, first person shooters, which combined have sold over 7 million units on PC. The franchise’s latest iteration “Insurgency: Sandstorm” due to launch on consoles in the future received critical acclaim upon launch, and the company looks to build upon this success and explore new IP’s as it scales up its new Canadian production studio.
The 36-strong indie team is looking to boost their headcount by up to 15 by the end of the year.
